How to Have a Steampunk Wedding

The traditional wedding always exudes elegance and class as you spend your special day celebrating with the ones you love.

Over the past few years, though, more and more themed weddings that really think outside the box have started to pop up. Whether it is wedding between the two biggest Star Wars fans in the world, or featuring two of your favorite superheroes, the possibilities are endless.

One of the unique trends as of late has been the steampunk wedding look. If you are trying to pull off this popular look for your big day, here are a few of the elements you will need to incorporate.

What is Steampunk?

If you are unfamiliar with this theme, you may be asking yourself what exactly it consists of. This old time, classical science fiction look has been seen in many different movies from Tim Burton's Sweeney Todd to Will Smith's Wild Wild West.

Essentially taking place in a time where steam-powered machines ruled the land, this industrial setting is a one of a kind look that is making a comeback in weddings design trends all around the world.

When it comes to successfully pulling off the steampunk look, the attire for both bride, groom, and the rest of the wedding party is arguably the most important part.

For the bride, the dresses should feature a Victorian-style that strays as far away from the standard white dress as possible. Really think outside the box with this look as black is an exceedingly popular option for brides to go for.

If you do go for the white dress, rocking plenty of industrial-themed jewelry and accessories is essential for completing the look.

As far as the groom is concerned, the tuxedo or suit look is the perfect for successfully fitting into this trend. When picking out the suit, a vest that features four or five buttons is a great classic look. Complete this ensemble with either a top hat, pocket watch, stylish brass knuckles, or some combination of the three.

When it comes to the wedding party, think steam engine conductor for the groomsmen. With a button up shirt, some overalls, and a top hat with big goggles around it, you can pull off this look with no trouble at all. For the bridesmaids, simply put them in some victorian style dresses with lace-up boots and your job is done. Hats and umbrellas are also great accessories for the women in the wedding to complete the ensemble.

To finalize the steampunk look, decorations at your wedding are the final touch. This element isn't too difficult to pull off as you can incorporate the industrial style into many different parts of the decor.

From gears, pipes, and light bulbs hanging around the room and on the tables, to dressing up your seating arrangement cards with these designs, it's difficult to not nail this theme.
